Cardinal & Gold Scholarships
The following ISU students are the 2014-2015 scholarship recipients:
Junior in Biology
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Being the first in my family to attend college means more than working towards a degree. College is my opportunity to prepare for my future and the future of generations after me. I could not do this alone and I am so thankful for the opportunity to receive the Cardinal and Gold Scholarship to help me on this exciting journey.
Senior in Supply Chain Management
College of Business
Being the first person in my family to attend college has always been my dream. This scholarship helped me more than anyone can imagine; having financial issues has always been an issue with my family. Having this scholarship has not only alleviated some financial stress from me but also my parents. It has allowed me to focus more on my studies. Thank you!
Junior in Interior Design
College of Design
New Sharon, Iowa
Being a student is an honor and privilege and as a first generation student, I realize this to the fullest. Attending college has allowed me to pursue my dreams and open doors that would have otherwise remained closed. The Cardinal and Gold Scholarship has helped me through this journey, and I am humbled and forever grateful for the opportunity it has given me.
Junior in Construction Engineering
College of Engineering
As the eldest of six children, my siblings have always tended to look up to me. Knowing that I can pave the way for them, I have continued through my college education. Thanks to this scholarship and all of the others I have earned, I have managed to pay my way through college this far. It is with much appreciation that I say thank you!
Dallas Cupples (recipient of the Terry & Craig Denny ISU Alumni Association Cardinal & Gold Gala/College of Human Sciences Scholarship)
Senior in Child, Adult, and Family Services
College of Human Sciences
Making the decision to attend college was anything but easy since most members of my family didn’t understand the importance of obtaining a college degree. To me, being a first a generation college student means having the strength and motivation to overcome obstacles and accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. I want to thank all of the alumni for donating towards the Cardinal and Gold scholarship. I am very appreciative. You have helped make my experience at Iowa State a positive one. Thank you!
Junior in Journalism and Mass Communication
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
One of my biggest ambitions in life has been to influence positive change in the world, which is why I chose to major in journalism. Because I am a first-generation student, I am completely financing myself through college. I cannot begin to express how thankful I am to all the people who have donated to this scholarship so I am able to continue toward my goal. I hope someday I am able to pay it forward to the next first-generation college students.
Erik Montelongo (recipient of the Lora & Russ Talbot ISU Alumni Association Cardinal & Gold College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship)
Third Year in Veterinary Medicine
College of Veterinary Medicine
I just hope to show people that no matter the background you come from, that if you put your mind and heart into believing you can be something, you can. I, as well as many others, know that Lora and Russ donate toward many scholarships at Iowa State University. Yes, I'm very appreciative of their generosity toward my scholarship, but each scholarship recipient gets more than that with Lora and Russ. We get two caring and compassionate people supporting us and wanting to see us succeed.
